Mr. Gobena: Head of International affairs

From our Technical adviser and head of International Relations

We understand that you may be concerned about some of the stories you may have heard in the mainstream media, however, we would like to clear up some of the facts.

As you may know, the narrative that the mainstream media is spinning is that Addis Ababa is surrounded by rebel forces and that the people of Ethiopia are not happy with the government and are looking to overthrow the government. This is absolutely false. This June close to 40 million Ethiopians registered to vote in the first free and fair election. We witnessed an astounding 90% voter turnout. Ethiopians are happy with the current government and are trying to work closely with the government in rebuilding the country. To say that the government is illegitimate goes against the huge voter turnout that we witnessed and the numbers that came out to celebrate the day the new government was established.

Currently, we are dealing with internal issues with the rebel terrorist group TPLF that has killed, raped, and tortured thousands in the past year not to mention the millions that have been tortured and have disappeared during the 27 years they have been in power. (for proof of these allegations read the report by amnesty international here and the official report by the EHRC and OHCHR here

The Ethiopian people have been patient with the TPLF in order to maintain peace in the country, however, now they are fed up with the lies and destruction that are being used by the group to divide and destroy the country. This has been reflected in the many protests that have been held all around the country and the world. This Sunday Addis Ababwians took to the streets to let the world know where they stand. Below are some pictures taken by Abel Gashaw, a documentary and travel photographer based in Addis Ababa. Abeel described the protest as such on his social media profiles.

“Hundred thousand Ethiopians gathered at Meskel square to show solidarity in fighting against the terrorist TPLF (tigray forces) and their allies. Slogans like stop fake news against Ethiopia and to stop middling of the international community to internal affairs were displayed.”

We would like to reiterate that life in Addis Ababa is more than safe right now as the government is taking steps with the help of its citizens to stabilize issues in the North of the country.

We will remain committed to informing you with the true and factual status of our country as we understand and believe that it is important for you to be constantly informed with the true facts of our country in order for our organizations to work well with each other.

Thank you for your time.
