Mr. Gobena Merga

Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mr. Gobena Merga ventured to the United States to pursue his high school education, followed by studies at Middlesex County College and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET). His journey was marked by various roles such as a security guard, gas station attendant, and food storekeeper while balancing his academic pursuits. Initially intending to return to Ethiopia after graduation, Mr. Merga's plans shifted when he met his wife and started a family. Throughout his student life and now as a father of three, he maintains a steadfast faith in God. Mr. Merga established himself as a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout designer, contributing to both established companies and startups across New Jersey. His experiences not only honed his technical skills but also cultivated proficiency in business management, interpersonal dynamics, and collaborative teamwork. In 2008, Mr. Gobena Merga began supporting his father, Mr. Merga Serbessa, who founded and managed KAM Trading PLC, an importer and distributor of hospital equipment throughout Ethiopia. Despite residing in the United States, Mr. Merga dedicated himself to KAM Trading, utilizing his technical and managerial expertise remotely. He adeptly balanced family responsibilities, professional obligations, and social engagements while serving as Technical Advisor, Sales and Marketing Manager for the company in Ethiopia. Leveraging technology such as email, Skype, Viber, and traditional phone lines, he effectively coordinated with staff in Ethiopia and collaborated with international manufacturers like Shimadzu Medical, Nihon Kohden, Dr. Mach, Hitachi Medical, ACOMA, and IPSO Alliance. Mr. Merga's commitment to advancing technological capabilities in Ethiopia drove him to travel to Japan, Dubai, and South Korea for business engagements. His frequent visits to Addis Ababa underscored his dedication to supporting his homeland's technological progress across diverse sectors. Currently based in the United States, Mr. Gobena Merga continues to contribute his expertise as a PCB layout design consultant. He has also assumed the roles of Technical Advisor and International Relations Officer at HBL plc, where he is a shareholder. His multifaceted career reflects his unwavering dedication to serving his country and fostering technological advancements in Ethiopia.
